Fodor's Expert Review Mezzaluna

$$ Avenida da Liberdade, Príncipe Real, and Restauradores Dinner

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

Perhaps the most sophisticated of the city's handful of Italian restaurants, Mezzaluna serves food that, given the background of owner-chef Michael Guerrieri, might be called Neapolitan-American. Here the freshest of vegetables are combined with fine Italian cheeses in many of the starters and pasta dishes—making the place a boon for vegetarians. There are always lots of elaborate fish and meat main dishes, too. At lunch Mezzaluna draws mainly a business crowd from the surrounding banks, and in the evenings prosperous couples. It's a bit of a hike uphill from Marquês de Pombal metro, so take a taxi here or settle for the longer walk downhill from Rato.
