North of Cabo da Roca, the protected national parkland extends through the successive Atlantic-facing resort villages of Praia Grande, Praia das Maçãs, and Azenhas do Mar. The first two have good beaches, and all have public swimming pools and small restaurants. A fun way to reach Praia das Maçãs is on the 19th-century Elétrico de Sintra, a tram that departs hourly from Ribeira de Sintra, 4 km (2½ mi) north of town, every day but Monday (the fare is EUR 2.50). It passes through Banzão and offers engaging views as it approaches the beach. The park's many contrasts are readily apparent as you ride or drive through the microclimate of Serra de Sintra.
