The Casa de São Mamede is a real survivor. One of the first private houses to be built in Lisbon after the 18th-century earthquake has been transformed into a relaxed guesthouse endowed with antique, country-style furniture; a tiled dining room; a grand staircase; and stained-glass windows. You're just a 10-minute walk from the Bairro Alto or a long, steep hike from the metro.
