Museu do Chiado

Fodor's Review:

The Chiado's prime art gallery—built on the site of a monastery—specializes in Portuguese art from 1850 to the present day, covering various movements: romanticism, naturalism, surrealism, modernism. The museum also hosts international films and temporary exhibitions of paintings and sculpture. The museum may close between exhibitions, so call ahead before visiting.
