Jardim da Estrêla

Fodor's Review:

Inside the attractively laid out Estrêla Garden, old men sit at tables playing card games. Watch them a while, stroll the shaded paths, and then pull up a chair in the café for a drink or a snack. Towering over the southwestern side is the 18th-century Basilica da Estrêla, which is open daily 7:45 AM-8 PM. This spacious baroque basilica has an unusually restrained interior and offers views of the city from its zimborio (dome). The gardens lie on the western edge of the Bairro Alto. You can walk here, although it's more pleasant to catch Tram 28, which runs from Rua do Loreto, near Praça Luís de Camões, just west of Largo do Carmo.
