Portugal's oldest botanical garden—laid out in 1768 by the Italian botanist Domenico Vandelli (1735-1816)—is an enjoyable place to spend an hour or so. You can stroll up here from the river at Belém, or take Tram 18 from downtown, which terminates near here. The many species of flora, labeled in Latin, are in several greenhouses covering 10 acres; if you call in advance, you may be able to arrange a guided tour.
