The local intelligentsia have made this low-key, comfortable restaurant their refuge, though friendly owner Eugenio Fidalgo welcomes every sort of patron. He'll gladly help you with the Portuguese menu and the excellent wine list. Specialties include grouper with tomatoes and shrimp as well as several bacalhau dishes. If you've never had medalhões de javali (wild boar cutlets), try them here—they're incredibly succulent.

excellent food. popular with the locals. full menu available in english, biggest main dish selection we've seen in any menu we saw in portugal (spent 8 days there). extensive wine list considering it is a medium price range restaurant.
service is laid back not pushy, for example, you won't be served entrees unless you asked for them (you'll know what i mean when you get into a portoguese restaurant and you see the bread, butter and olives on your tab at the end).
quite a few of the people there were foreigners accompanied by locals or foreigners who have been in portugal before.
only downside, i would say, is the lack of terrace, but, perfect for a chilly night.
