Fodor's Expert Review Marisqueira Ribas

This is your typical Portuguese marisqueira—large and noisy with family-style seating and the hammering and cracking of crab shells. Overlooking the harbor with indoor and outdoor tables, the restaurant greets you with beautiful murals of Ericeira's harbor and a huge display of fresh shellfish. Crabs and lobsters can be ordered individually, priced by the kilo or piled upon a large mariscada (mixed seafood platter) with clams, mussels, shrimp, and other native mollusks. The dish is served with warm, toasted bread and can be shared between two or more people. The heaps of empty shells piled on plates are testimony to the feasts that have taken place.
