Agatunet Review

Agatunet is an open-air museum composed of a cluster of old farmhouses—the oldest dating back to the 13th century. Serfdom was not practiced widely in western Norway. In some communities independent farmers clustered their houses together, and divided the pastures and orchards evenly. Although this led to some bizarre situations, like two farmers owning one half of the same apple tree, this semi-communal farming system was practiced until the 19th century. Very few clustered villages remain today, however, and even fewer are in as pristine condition as the Agatunet. The admission covers guided tours and indoor exhibits. Wandering the idyllic grounds is free.
