Fleischer's Hotel Review

One of Norway's historic wooden hotels, the beautiful, gabled Fleischer looks like a manor from a fairy tale. Its carved wood dragons are fine examples of stave church-style architecture, developed in Hardanger in the late 19th century. First seen in churches, the style became fashionable and eventually was used all over southern Norway to decorate everything from silverware and furniture to prominent buildings like this luxurious hotel. Rooms in the old wing still have some flavor from that era. The restaurant Magdalene serves traditional renditions of sheep's head, grilled venison, fresh mountain trout, and salmon dishes. The hotel is steps away from the railway tracks leading to Bergen.
