Museet for Samtidskunst

Fodor's Review:

A stunning granite-and-marble example of art nouveau architecture, this 1906 former bank building is the largest museum of postwar Norwegian and international art. Its ornate gilded interior contrasts with the modern and contemporary art shown in its permanent and temporary exhibitions. The permanent collection of 4,700 works spans the genres of graphic art, drawing, photography, sculpture, decorative arts, installations, and video. Take time to ponder the two fascinating permanent installations: IIya Kabakov's The Garbage Man and Per Inge Bjorlo's Inner Room V.
