Boats have always been Bergen's lifeline to the world.

Fjord Line serves North Norway, Stavanger and Haugesund, and Hardangerfjord and Sunnhordland. There's also service to Sognefjord, Nordfjord, and Sunnfjord.

The Smyril Line has a ferry that departs once a week in summer to the Shetland Islands, the Faroe Islands, and Iceland. Smyril also has service between Bergen and Scotland.

Hurtigruten (the Coastal Steamer) departs daily from Frielenes Quay, Dock H, for the 11-day round-trip to Kirkenes in the far north.

HSD express boats (to Hardangerfjord, Sunnhordland, Stavanger, and Haugesund) and Fylkesbaatane express boats (to Sognefjord, Nordfjord, and Sunnfjord) depart from Strandkai Terminalen.

International ferries depart from Skoltegrunnskaien.
