Vestlandske Kunstindustrimuseum (West Norway Museum of Decorative Art) Review

This eclectic collection contains many exquisite art and design pieces. Its permanent "People and Possessions" exhibit spans 500 years and has everything from Bergen silverware to Ole Bull's violin, which was made in 1562 by the Italian master Saló. A fine collection traces the history of chair design. "The Art of China," the other permanent exhibition, presents one of Europe's largest collections of Buddhist marble sculptures alongside porcelain, jade, bronzes, textiles, and paintings. The silk robes embroidered with dragons and other ceremonial garments are stunning. Changing exhibitions focus on painting, decorative art, and design.
