Bergen Sights

Bryggen (The Wharf) Review

A trip to Bergen is incomplete without a trip to Bryggen. A row of mostly reconstructed 14th-century wooden buildings that face the harbor makes this one of the most charming walkways in Europe, especially on a sunny day. The originals were built by Hansa merchants, while the oldest reconstruction dates from 1702. Several fires, the latest in 1955, destroyed the original structures. Today the old merchant homes house various boutiques and restaurants. Bryggen has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.
