Café le Journal

Café le Journal Review

This spot has the widest terrace and so catches the most sun (when there is sun to be had) of the cafés along Winkenburgstraat and Neude. Large trees soften the view across the square, so this is a prime place for lazy weekend afternoons. Inside, floor-to-ceiling framed magazine covers reflect the general news theme. The long communal table inside is stocked with newspapers, including a few English-language titles. The menu is excellent and wide-ranging. Although the café is relatively big, there is no feeling of being processed when you come here, thanks to the charming staff. Even when the place is busy, you can linger over a koffie verkerd (café au lait) as long as you want.
