Museum de Dubbelde Palmboom (Double Palm Tree Museum)
Museum de Dubbelde Palmboom (Double Palm Tree Museum) Review
Devoted to the history of Rotterdam and its role as an international nexus, this museum traces the city's history from prehistoric times to the current day. The focus is on how exotic wares imported by the East India Company affected the city. The building itself is redolent of history: not only do its heavy beams and brick floors waft you back to yesteryear, but there even seems to be a faint smell of grains, recalling the many years the buildong spent as a warehouse. Ask for the informative guide in English, as all labeling is in Dutch. The first floor has some fascinating archaeological finds: one of the spouted ancient jugs has been traced to a town near Cologne, providing proof that traveling merchants were apparently very active in trading ceramics.
