By Train in Rotterdam, Delft and the Randstad

By Train

Getting about by rail is the ideal means of intercity transport in the metropolitan area. Trains are fast, frequent, clean, and reliable, and stations in all towns are centrally located, usually within walking distance of major sights. All international and intercity trains from Brussels and Paris stop in Rotterdam Centraal. From here connections can be taken to travel directly to Delft (15 minutes northwest), and Haarlem (55 minutes northwest), on a twice-hourly sneltrain (express train) in the direction of Amsterdam. Intercity trains to Amsterdam traveling via Schiphol also stop in Delft and Haarlem. There are regular direct intercities to Utrecht from Rotterdam. Seat reservations aren't permitted. When traveling around the metropolitan area, direct trains leave Amsterdam for Haarlem, Delft, Rotterdam, and Utrecht several times an hour.
