Noordermarkt
Noordermarkt Review
The Noordermarkt is probably most cherished by Amsterdammers for its weekly boerenmarkt, the organic farmers' market held every Saturday from 9 to 6 around the perimeter of the Noorderkerk. With comestibles such as free-range meats, cruelty-free honey, homemade pestos, and vegan cakes on offer, it's an orgasm for the organic-loving. Just be prepared to open your wallet. On Mondays, from 9 to 1, the Noordermarkt shape-shifts into what is locally known as the maandagmarkt (Monday Market). Evocative of the Old World, it's a sprawling affair, mostly of used clothing, books, and toys, but careful collectors can find a range of good stuff, from antique silverware and pottery to wartime and advertising memorabilia.
