Smaller than the Leidseplein, this square is the focus for hotels, restaurants, cafés, and nightlife venues and it is lively enough to justify picking it out from its surroundings. Rembrandtplein is renowned for hosting travelers, so finding menus in English, a pint of Old Speckled Hen, or overpriced clubs is easy. If you find yourself on the main square, dart off to the side streets as quickly as possible. For arts lovers interested in getting up close and personal with Rembrandt, check out the 3-D, life-like sculpture of The Nightwatch, donated as part of Rembrandt's 400th birthday celebrations in 2005. In addition, a gigantic silkscreen billboard of the painting adorns one side of the square.
