A clutch of 17th- and 18th-century houses -- 25 in all -- were combined to create this rambling hotel sprinkled with landscaped garden courtyards that are featured in the blockbuster movie Ocean's Twelve. It faces the Prinsengracht and the Keizersgracht canals and is just a short walk from both the Dam Square and the Jordaan. The place retains a historic ambience: most guest rooms -- which are surprisingly spacious compared with its labyrinth of narrow halls and steep stairs -- have beam ceilings and antique stylings. An appropriately historical soundtrack is provided every half hour when the nearby Westerkerk chimes. Modern touches include heated bathroom floors and wireless Internet. Pros: friendly vibe, efficient staff, beautiful high-beam ceilings in some rooms. Cons: clanging of church bells, rooms vary in quality.

We stayed there at the end of a tour. it's expensive, but charming in many ways. The rooms remind me of a country inn with pitched ceilings and exposed beams. The canal side rooms are to be preferred. Within walking distance (isn't everything in Amsterdam in walking distance?) within shopping areas and museums. Yes, we'd stop there again.

This is NOT a luxury hotel.. While the service was excellent, the room was the size of a closet (and I never expect much while in Europe), and everything was outrageously priced. ALtogether, disappointing.

This should be categorized as a 3 star hotel. The service was poor (we asked for help parking the car. The bellman (older middle aged gentleman) was notibly perturbed. We were told it would take 1 hour to call for our car again. Luggage help was not offered upon check-in. The gentleman checking in next to us asked for help directly (he had been traveling quite some time. The request was not acknowledged and no help offered). We purchased 3 rooms. Our room was dirty. I had to wash the walls to be able to touch the lightswitch (it looked as if something yellow was splashed all up the wall). I have never experienced this in a hotel previously. The hotel grand area floors were dirty and the hotel needs a complete make-over. We supposedly received an Upgraded room. This was not comparable to any of the other luxory hotels we visited previously. (This hotel is listed as a Luxury Starwood hotel. This rating needs to be changed!) For an enjoyable, luxurious stay-- try Hotel Des Indes (The Hague, Nederlands). This is truly a 5 star hotel!
