Just a stone's throw from the Museumplein, this hotel often attracts international musicians in town to perform at the nearby Concertgebouw—except perhaps those who play the cello (the steep staircase is hard to navigate with bulky baggage). Owner Johan Boelhouwer is helpful and will lend from his collection of guidebooks. The breakfast room and lounge are filled with antiques and marvelous brass chandeliers, and the hotel is meticulously polished and sparkling clean. The rooms are simply and charmingly decorated in white and pastel shades. Large windows let in a flood of light. There are also four comfortable and cozy apartments with their own kitchens; some also have living rooms, bathtubs, and pianos. Pros: laid-back atmosphere, friendly staff, popular with musicians. Cons: no elevator, books up fast.
