Founded by Gerard Heineken in 1863, the Heineken label quickly became one of the world's most famous (and popular) beers. So popular, in fact, that this factory couldn't keep up with the enormous demand—today, most production rolls out of vast plants in The Hague and Den Bosch. The original brewery has now been transformed into the "Heineken Experience," an interactive center that offers tours of the more than 100-year-old facilities. Everything from vast copper vats to beer-wagon dray horses is on view, and if you've ever wanted to know what it feels like to be a beer bottle, the virtual reality ride will clue you in. Others may want to exercise their privilege of drinking multiple beers in a very short time. (Note: this tour is open only to visitors over the age of 18.) Be aware that the brewery is closed until June 2008 because of renovations.
