Groaning with pewter tankards, stained glass, leaded-glass windows, rich historic paneling, Indonesian paisley fabriks, and betasseled Victorian lamps, this restaurant's "Old Holland" ambience and matching menu attract lots of tourists. And why change a winning formula? The Pieter de Hooch-worthy interiors eclipse the food, although the (somewhat overpriced) dishes include an excellent pea soup and a selection of stampotten (mashed dishes that combine potato with a variety of vegetables and/or meats). On cold winter nights, opt for the hutspot, a stampot of mashed potato and carrot supplemented with steamed beef, sausage, and bacon.
