Located in a canal house at the edge of the Red Light District, this hostel is a backpacker's Ritz. Usually filled with young, friendly international travelers, it has a reputation as the most gezellig,or cozy, place to stay in Amsterdam. Some say if you're looking for simple accommodation at a bargain-basement price, you can't do better. The dormitories are immaculate, with breakfast and bedsheets included in the price. You can get meals and drinks at the café. Everyone congregates in the lobby to make new friends, watch TV, or use the Internet. Pros: cheap and cheerful, friendly vibe, near the city's best second-hand bookstores. Cons: dorm-style accommodations, books up fast.
