As with many 18th-century canal-house hotels, the exterior here is eye-catching – this one has a particularly ornate gable – and the inside is modernized. Comfortably furnished rooms in front have a canal view, but the rooms at the back are quieter. The family rooms sleep five. Near Dam Square, the main shopping streets and Centraal Station, you are also just a short tram ride away from the major museums. Pros: authentic Amsterdam vibe, near plenty of restaurants, rooms for families. Cons: near Red Light District, some unsavory characters milling around.
