Few hotels have as marvelous a lobby as this one, thanks to the building's origins as a 1910s theater. Jugendstil ornament, tile trim, and etched glass all conjure up the soigné style of the turn of the 20th century. A rich maroon color is carried out in furnishings throughout the hotel, conveying a bit of the music-hall tinkle; guest room furnishings for the most part, however, are modern and standard issue. Happily located on a quiet side street off the Dam Square, the Rho is within walking distance of theaters, nightlife, and shopping. Pros: gorgeous high-ceilinged lobby, near some fabulous restaurants. Cons: alley entrance, basic rooms.
