The couple that runs this property, Hans and Loes de Rapper, places an emphasis on the spic-and-span. Therefore, this peaceful hotel, a turn-of-the-20th-century town house, is not only dustless but is off-limits to smokers. In the morning, you can enjoy fresh-baked bread and homemade jam, along with freshly squeezed orange juice, at the buffet breakfast. Another plus: you won't be charged for telephone calls within Europe and to the United States. The Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum, and Concertgebouw are literally around the corner. You can buy your tickets here and get a 20% discount. Pros: staff with a sense of humor, free telephone calls, free laundry service. Cons: no real public areas, decor is on the twee side.

My wife and I spent three nights at the Hotel Fita in March 08. The rooms were spotless, staff helpful, friendly and the entire experience was overwhelmingly great.
The hotel is located within walking distance of the museums and Leidsplein as well as minutes from the tram and the center of the city.
I would recommend the Hotel Fita for anyone traveling to Amsterdam.
