At first glance, the Park looks like everyone's dream of a grand Netherlandish hotel: it's topped by a picturesque pepper-pot tower, and its 18th-century building set with regal windows is mirrored charmingly in the Singel River. But though this stately Amsterdam fixture has one foot in history, the other is firmly entrenched in today, thanks to its modern-luxe decor and amenities. The neon lights of Leidseplein's shops, casino, and clubs are around the corner, and the sylvan glades of Amsterdam's gorgeous Vondelpark are just across the road, beckoning you to take an early morning jog. The major art museums are also within walking distance. Pros: stylishly appointed rooms, convenient location between Leidseplein and the Vondelpark. Cons: no particular Dutch flavor, bureaucratic staff is slow to answer requests.
