Acacia

Fodor's Review:

This small family-run hotel makes a good ambassador for the Jordaan, thanks to its quiet, clean, and welcoming vibe. The dining room here is cozy—even grandmotherly—and the rooms are clean and colorful, but you might opt to "go native" and book one of the two self-catering houseboats moored out front (each is equipped with shower, toilet, cable TV, and telephone). The Acacia is within walking distance of the Anne Frankhuis and the Westertoren, and is right next door to a typical Jordaan café, Café de Gijs, noted for its charming gezelligheid. The whole district is full of interesting, quirky shops offering collectibles, handmade jewelry, and antiques. Pros: good location, canal views, chance to stay on a houseboat. Cons: spartan rooms, dining room is a bit fussy.
