If pot or prostitutes aren't your thing, Amsterdam permits another oft-forbidden substance. Absinthe is where seekers of the same-named sap can get safely starry-nighted – this in spite of the fact that the green fairy may be what fueled Van Gogh's little ear episode. Traditional tonics are also on tap for those who seek a more generically gothic vibe in the grotto-like bar.
