Nederlands Filmmuseum

Fodor's Review:

Gracing the Vondelpark is the Netherlands Film Museum, an elegant 19th-century pavilion with a museum, film halls, and a permanently packed café Vertigo. Amsterdam's first movie theater, the Cinema Parisien is a sumptuous place to see a classic, with its 1910 Art Deco interior, film poster collection, and adjacent film library (the library is open Tuesday-Friday 1-5). The museum's collection covers the whole of cinematic history, from the earliest hand-tinted movies up to recent digital productions. With its internationally renowned collection, major thematic retrospectives, conferences, and research, the museum draws international crowds. There are free outdoor screenings at dusk in the summertime. Theatrical family shows and live music played under silent films are a specialty. Enter Vondelpark via the Roemer Visscherstraat entrance to find this magical place waiting for you.

  • Cost: Free
  • Open: Weekdays 9 AM–10:30 PM, weekends 1 hr before screenings
