The name "Museum View" is accurate: this hotel is directly across the street from the Rijksmuseum. The owner once ran an antiques shop, so the house is filled with wonderful objects such as Art Deco wardrobes, streamlined lamps, and Lloyd Loom chairs. The breakfast room-lounge has a Murano glass chandelier and Art Deco pottery on the chimney walls. Elsewhere hang 19th- and 20th-century landscapes and portraits. The rooms are simple but delightful, with pastel-striped wallpaper and little etchings. The hotel is on the top floors of the building, and guests must climb a narrow and steep stairway with their luggage to the reception desk and to the rooms -- the owners highly recommend traveling light. Pros: quiet location, clean rooms, view of the Rijksmuseum. Cons: steep staircase, no particularly Dutch flavor.

For the price this is a very nice option -- great view of the museum. The beds were clean and comfortable, shared bathroom was clean and always available. Nights were always quiet (even during high season) and the breakfast in the morning was good and satisfying. Hotel staff was nice and helpful at all times.
