Fodor's Review

If your Dutch food experiences have consisted of bland potatoes with even blander balls of fried dough, Greetje could be your religious awakening. It's certainly not nouvelle: in a truly old-fashioned homey environment, the chef takes rarely seen or forgotten dishes and prepares them with fresh, local, and often organic ingredients. Think grilled sandwiches of Frisian sugar bread (traditional sweet bread from Holland's North) with layers of homemade duck liver terrine and apple syrup, or fillet of plaice with carrots, onion, and Dutch shrimp. Service does veer from Dutch tradition—it's efficient and extremely helpful. If you're a licorice fan, don't miss the over-the-top licorice crème brûlée with Dutch black licorice ice cream.
