Fodor's Review

Evoking a sense of timeless classicism along a strip that is decidedly middle-of-the-road, De Roode Leeuw has red banquettes, dark paneling, romantic lighting, and it's the only restaurant around packed Dam Square. It has the city's oldest heated—though unfortunately, also enclosed—terrace. You'll find poshed-up native fare served here, with even posher silverware, be it North Sea red gurnard fish with salsa or local duck breast with cranberries. Though it mainly attracts passing tourists, the restaurant is worth a stop if you're shopping at the nearby de Bijenkorf department store and need a pick-me-up.
