This dark, woody, and well-worn café—as evocative as a Jan Steen 17th-century interior—has been serving the same simple cheese fondue for decades. Get salads to start (they offer five types to choose from, for only €5) and then dunk those bread bits into the wonderfully cheesy mess. Besides their cheese fondue, they also offer a steak entrecote that you cook at the table. Don't come for a romantic meal; you'll very likely be sharing a communal table with a group of boisterous locals out to celebrate.

At Cafe Bern you definately get typical Dutch Food: Cheese. But it is prepared in an un-Dutch fashion: fondue . . . and with lots of garlic. Don't expect the waiters to read your mnd or be nice to you. They are typically Dutch and efficient and eventually get the food to you. Don't get annoyed this is part of the experience. I would not take my first date here, but definately a group of friends.
