The Globe-Hopping Bunny
Created by Utrecht native Dick Bruna in 1955, Nijntje is to the Netherlands what Mickey Mouse is to the United States. Rarely does a Dutch child today go without at least one Bruna book or toy. The beloved storybook bunny is named after the Dutch word for "little rabbit," konijntje, though you may know her by her less diphthongy international handle, Miffy. Experts in cuteness, the Japanese are especially fond of Miffy, as well as her diverse animal friends, whose simple lines and expressionless features have no doubt inspired Hello Kitty.
