    $$

Believed to be the oldest restaurant in Kotor, this rustic eatery is one of the best places in town for lobster, mussels, and fresh fish, such as simple barbecued zubatac (dentex) drizzled with olive oil and served with a wedge of lemon. The candlelit dining room has exposed stone walls, a wood-beam ceiling hung with fishing equipment, and a big open fireplace. In summer, extra tables are set outside on the piazza.

  • 4. Hotel Astoria Restaurant

    $$ | Stari Grad

The restaurant and bar housed in this 13th-century town house fuse ancient and modern, Montenegrin and international, in a setting dominated by a tree set within the main room, its branches spreading out across the ceiling. A light menu offers both Mediterranean and Asian dishes, and—a welcome opportunity for diners in Kotor who don't eat fish—some vegetarian and meat dishes. Try the popular chocolate soufflé from the dessert menu. It's a great option for breakfast too.

  • 5. Marenda Grill House

    $$

Grillhouses and butcher shops go hand-in-hand, making Marenda Grill House a perfectly placed spot just outside Kotor's Old Town. The meat is about as locally sourced as you're going to get, cooked to perfection in a down-to-earth setting. The interior is nothing to write home about it, but this is most definitely substance over style.

One extra bonus is the availability of Fabrika Craft Beer, brewed down the road in Risan.
