Widely regarded as one of the best restaurants on the coast, Hotel Conte's gastronomic offerings prove the benefits of culinary education and growth. The chefs have spent time at some of the finest restaurants in Europe, honing their craft and embracing new culinary trends in real time, leading directly to the food on your plate. The terrace is gorgeous, and the four-course set menu is a bastion of excellence.
Believed to be the oldest restaurant in Kotor, this rustic eatery is one of the best places in town for lobster, mussels, and fresh fish, such as barbecued zubatac (dentex) drizzled with olive oil and served with a wedge of lemon. The candlelit dining room has exposed stone walls, a wood-beam ceiling hung with fishing equipment, and a big open fireplace. In summer, extra tables are set outside on the piazza.
This sophisticated restaurant occupies an old stone building with a glass-and-steel winter terrace extension, serving creative twists on local food. Expect funky modern furniture and chill-out music accompanying a hip and tasty menu. It's a five-minute walk along the coast from the Old Town.
Grill houses and butcher shops go hand-in-hand, making Marenda Grill House a perfectly placed spot just outside Kotor's Old Town. The meat is about as locally sourced as you're going to get, cooked to perfection in a down-to-earth setting. The interior is nothing to write home about, but this is most definitely substance over style.
This spot makes a great case as Kotor's most romantic restaurant. Settled in another of the city's hidden squares, Pržun straddles the fine line between private and popular, serving excellent seafood in a professional manner. One bonus is the availability of Fabrika Craft Beer, brewed down the road in Risan.
This rustic old mill on the Ljuta River, 7 km (4 miles) down the coastal road from Perast, dates back to 1670 and has been run by the current family for more than 40 years. The restaurant offers excellent food, emphasizing fish (you can visit the restaurant's trout ponds set in the attractive grounds). In summer, outdoor tables are set up along the river (which is more of a stream these days). Mooring is available for those arriving by boat.
A longtime staple of Podgorica’s traditional dining scene, Tavern Lanterna remains one of the best restaurants in the country. The Old Town location can’t be beaten, while the menu touches on Montenegrin classics. The range of veal dishes is fantastic. Be sure to grab a seat on the terrace if there is space.
