Fodor's Review

Familiar from the remade Casino Royale James Bond movie, and beloved of real-life celebrities (World number-one tennis player Novak Djokovic recently hired the entire island for his wedding), Sveti Stefan is a fairy-tale island hotel, connected to the mainland by a causeway. It is made up of an entire village of cobbled streets lined with medieval stone cottages with terra-cotta tile roofs, nestled within 15th-century defensive walls amid fragrant bushes of pomegranate, fig, and rosemary. Recently restored by Singapore-based Aman Resorts it now boasts 50 luxurious rooms, suites, and cottages, some with private pools—the largest Aman complex in the world. Each unit is unique with the original medieval walls exposed and elegant contemporary design. Also on the island is a pool with a wooden deck, five spa cottages offering massage and beauty treatments, and a gym, as well as a restaurant, bar, and antipasti bar. The restaurants are open to nonguests.

In the same complex

but on the mainland is the Villa Miločer, built as the Montenegrin royal summer residence in the 1930s. Its suites have period details like parquet floors, and stunning bathrooms with stone floors and free-standing bathtubs - and the views show the Sveti Stefan island, in a panorama that's impossible from the island itself. The Villa has its own private beach.

The Aman Spa is in a sleek new building set amid pine trees on the mainland, close to the Villa Miločer a day pass for the spa is only 45 euro, giving you affordable access to the exclusive complex and a chance to live like celebrities for the day at a fraction of the cost of a room.

There is boat access to the Aman Sveti Stefan and free transfers to and from Tivat airport.
