Hôtel Metropole Review

Big names like designer Karl Lagerfeld and chef Joël Robuchon help draw guests (some with big names themselves) to this cosseted getaway where Rothschild Renaissance meets contemporary style in the heart of Monte Carlo. From the moment you walk through the colossal neo-Roman arch, down the cypress-studded lane, and into the cozy Jacques Garcia-designed lounge, you're swept into this luxurious getaway. Guest rooms are posh and tastefully decorated in creams and beiges, and the garden has been transformed into an urban oasis. In 2013, the Metropole took design to another level with the unveiling of a Karl Lagerfeld-designed pool area, complete with a constellation of lights for the pool floor and a 65-foot-long installation inspired by the Iliad and Odyssey. Another main attraction here—especially for those with a healthy respect for creative, top-notch cuisine—is the restaurant: Legendary chef Joël Robuchon crafts menus that vary from season to season but never fail to delight. (Lagerfeld also created a new outdoor space for Robuchon dining.) Guests can choose from a number of chauffeur-driven half-day and full-day trips, and a number of unique activities.
