Fodor's Expert Review Vallée de la Pétrusse

Luxembourg City Park

Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.

Full of willows, cherry trees, and bluffs, this broad park lies in the canyon of the Pétrusse river. However, work is being done on the area until 2023, to remove the concrete riverbed and return it to a more natural state. Near the high Viaduc, you'll see the Chapelle Saint-Quirin built into the rocks. The cave is said to have been carved by the Celts; it is known to have housed a chapel since at least the 4th century. The best views are to be found from atop the Pont Viaduc (or la Passerelle). Built in the mid-19th century, the 290-meter-long bridge spans the valley and offers magnificent glimpses of the rocky ledges—partly natural, partly man-made—on which the city was founded.
