Experiences
- Sachsenhausen, Frankfurt's "South Bank", is really an outdoor nightlife strip with bars and restaurants. It's not cheap, but it makes for some great people-watching.
- The Museum of Natural History has Europe's only complete diplodocus, as well as a host of plants, animals, and kid-friendly dioramas with stuffed animals.
- Goethe's House is now a museum—a re-creation after the original was destroyed by Allied bombing during World War II. The adjoining museum contains works that inspired the writer.
Festivals
- Christopher Street Day is the city's Gay and Lesbian parade; the festivities are held in mid-June.
- Summer in the City, a series of outdoor concerts, is held the entire month of August.
Side Trips
- Bad Homburg (7 mi/11 km to the north) was a favorite destination of Wilhelm II, who spent a month here at the town's famous spas.
- The Opel Zoo, (9 mi/15 km east) has over 1,400 native and exotic animals, as well as a petting zoo.
