Why We Like It

You don’t always need luxury to have a good stay in Venice—but you do need comfort and convenience. Hotel Flora has both in spades, with a prime location for a reasonable price and attentive staff, who are happy to recommend (and book) restaurants, private boats, and other tours. Last but not least, the tranquil garden is a wonderful place to unwind after a long day of traipsing about town.

Fodor's Expert Review

Simple and charming, Hotel Flora is perfect for guests who want a quiet atmosphere and helpful service in a central location, just steps from Venice’s shopping district and St. Mark’s Square. Even better: A rare hidden garden at the back of the hotel makes a peaceful place for a drink or to enjoy the lovely buffet breakfast.

You Should Know This isn’t the place for those seeking either luxury or water views.

Room

Each of the 40 rooms is different, though all have unique Venetian features such as chandeliers or beamed ceilings.

Tip Some rooms definitely have more charm than others, so ask to switch if you’re not happy with the one you're offered.

Bathroom

Small and basic, and mainly with showers, not tubs—though they do offer lovely Ortigia Sicilia bath products.

Lobby

Compact and old-fashioned, there’s not much to Hotel Flora’s lobby.

Tip Instead of hanging out in the lobby, plan the rest of your Venice trip from the peaceful environs of the garden.

Dining

Hotel Flora serves breakfast only—but it’s quite a spread, with daily homemade cakes and local products, served indoors or out.

Drinking

Sink into the cozy red velvet couches and chairs of Hotel Flora’s bar, where you can sip wine or have the bartender mix you a cocktail. In nice weather, take your drink in the charming courtyard.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Walking is probably your best bet from here, as Hotel Flora is so close to St. Mark’s Square and all its attractions. It’s also only a 3-minute walk from the Santa Maria del Giglio ferry stop, from where you can travel by water all around Venice.

Restaurants

Though the San Marco area has lots of same-same ultra-touristy places, nearby Osteria Enoteca San Marco (4-minute walk) is an exception: an elegant and contemporary Italian bistro with a fine selection of wines. Ai Mercanti (5-minute walk), a haven for inventive dishes at a reasonable price, is another solid choice. For a splurge, the refined Italian cuisine at Michelin-starred Ristorante Quadri (5-minute walk), smack in the middle of Piazza San Marco, deserves a stop for setting alone (though reviews of the food can be mixed).

Bars

Enjoy wonderful Piazza San Marco views at Caffè Florian (4-minute walk), or try a Bellini cocktail at the place it was invented, Harry’s Bar (4-minute walk). For some cicchetti (bar snacks) and wine, Enoteca al Volto (7-minute walk) is a great place to go.
