In the crush of hotels in and around Piazza San Marco, there are many undesirables, since the location alone attracts lodgers. This delightful gem, eked out of a 15th-century palace and located in a quiet courtyard secluded from the melee, is one notable exception. The thoughtful, personal touches added by owners Stefano and Susanna are evident everywhere, from the six individually decorated rooms (some with private terraces), to the carefully chosen contemporary furniture, to classic Venetian elements such as wall tapestries and mosaic tiles. There's highly personal service; guests are often welcomed by one of the owners. There's a courtyard where you can enjoy breakfast or an evening interlude, and one attic apartment is available. Pro: Terraces, with views of the Doge's Palace, are a definite plus. Con: Rooms are not expansive.
