Fodor's Review

In a small dining room made warm and cozy by its pleasing and unpretentious decor, proprietor Giordano makes all diners feel like honored guests. Pappardelle "al Paradiso" takes pasta with seafood sauce to new heights, while risotto with shrimp, champagne, and grapefruit puts a delectable twist on a traditional dish. The inspired and original array of entrées includes meat and fish selections such as a salmon with honey and balsamic vinegar in a stunning presentation.

Unlike many elegant restaurants, Al Paradiso serves generous portions and many of the delicious antipasti and primi are quite satisfying; you may want to follow the traditional Italian way of ordering and wait until you've finished your antipasto or your primo before you order your secondo.

Excellent Recommendation by Massimo, Concierge @ Westin Regina & Europa

We asked for a restaurant that was delicious but not "touristy" and Massimo outdid himself! Near the Rialto Bridge (but not on the water) we enjoyed a memorable evening under the stars in romantic Venice! I was pleasantly surprised to see John Dory on the menu--absolutely a favorite and not often available even in fine restaurants (that alone testifies to the quality of the establishment!) Wile my husband enjoyed a crispy sea bass (branzino)

prepared to perfection, I feasted on the John Dory with mushrooms in season (but must admit the traditional preparation--ala Milenese offered on the side as a taste--was equally if not slightly better!) My hsuband started with fried zuchini flowers stuffed with mozzala and I selected the special porcini mushroom salad which arrived with shaved gran padano and was fantiastic. Taking further advantage of the mushroom season, we chose to share homemade pasta with mushrooms and shrimp, finishing the sauce with olive bread and rosemary crisps. We received excellent consul on the wine which resulted in our choice of a Cianti (instead of the slightly more expensive Brunello we were considering) and it was a perfect compliment to the seafood! Failing to save room for dessert, we were tempted with a sweet after dinner wine and lemony biscuits in the S shape of the Grand Canal--just the right touch! Giordano, the maitre'de was beyond delightful with a beautiful smile and twinlking eyes and our server Sylvia was attentive and gracious!
