Pensione Accademia Villa Maravege Review

Though the Salmaso family is not originally Venetian, they have created and maintained one of the most quintessentially Venetian accommodations in the city for over 40 years. Aptly nicknamed "Villa of the Wonders," this patrician retreat once served as the Russian embassy and was the residence of Katharine Hepburn's character in the film Summertime. Outside, a garden awaits just beyond an iron gate, complete with a mini Palladian-style villa, flower beds, stone cupids, and verdant trees—all rarities in Venice. The spacious terrace sits on a promontory where two side canals converge with the Grand Canal. The traditionally decorated rooms are outfitted with Venetian-style antiques and fine tapestry, and overlook either the picturesque Rio San Trovaso or the lush gardens. Inlaid designs or mosaics decorate marble or ceramic tiled baths. Book well in advance.
