The only Venetian abbey turned into a hotel, the Abbazia is not recognizable as such from the outside. The guest rooms are in the former convent -- a low, white stucco structure with no exposed brick or Gothic windows. Numerous details survive from the building's religious past: tiny wooden pulpits hang on the walls, and holy-water bowls await around many corners. Brass chandeliers befit the austerity of the place, as does the cream-white and beige decor of the rooms (considerably larger than monks' cells), although some touches of gaudy colors are found in the tapestries and couches.

Venice was the third city on our family trip (6 ages 26 to 82)to Italy and the Abbazia was the best of our hotels!
Great location for those arriving by train. Less than a block from the train station, made it easy without hiring porters to move bags, etc. Look for the small walkway just beyond the Scalzi church and the Scalzi bridge.
The desk staff is wonderful and very helpful. The hotel is quiet (except for the 7:15AM and 8:15AM church bells) and the rooms are individually decorated.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
