Fodor's Review:

Tucked away on a little calle near Campo San Polo, da Fiore is a favorite among high-end diners for its superbly prepared Venetian cuisine and refined yet relaxed atmosphere. The Martin family are hands-on owners, with Mara in the kitchen and Maurizio running every aspect of the dining room. A superlative seafood lunch or dinner here might include delicate hors d'oeuvres of soft-shell crab, scallops, and tiny octopus, followed by a succulent risotto or pasta con scampi e radicchio (with shrimp and radicchio), and a perfectly cooked main course of rombo (turbot) or tagliata di tonno (tuna steak). The formerly all-fish menu has been expanded to include dishes such as a sublimerisotto made with butternut squash and balsamic vinegar and a buffalo burger. A jacket is not required, but is highly recommended.

The Osteria da Fiore in San Polo, Calle Scaleter was
previously outstanding. I have eaten there three times previously.
The restaurant has now, in July 2008, completely

this place with a star and three forks! The
Prices are also approximately 2 - 2.5 times higher than

The service is the very high prices are not appropriate,

In the restaurant sat in the evening no Italians,

I am writing this review as of November 6, 2008. I have written several previous reviews here of this restaurant. There was a very unfortunate problem last year, that sadly had to do with the health of Mara Martin, the chef and heart and soul of the restaurant. Happily, as of now, she is back in the kitchen, and creating all the wonderful dishes that she is famed for again. We just ate here, and had an extraordinary meal. It is in the subtle detailed preparations that this place excels. Even the bread that is served is incredible, with lemon and other flavors permeating it. Graciousness, attention to detail, and above all, the attention to the fresh seasonal food and ingredients are beyond all others.
I love this restaurant, because they are truly the real thing, and they have their hearts and souls wrapped up into it. Be prepared to spend some money, but to also have a memory that will last you for years to come.
Thank you Maurizio and Mara and all your staff!
