Easy to miss despite its vicinity to Piazza San Marco, this Renaissance-Gothic palace is accessible only through a narrow backstreet that connects Campo Manin with Calle dei Fuseri. Built around 1500 by the renowned Contarini family, it was closed for decades in the late 20th century, until structural reinforcement made its striking six-floor spiral staircase (bovolo means "snail" in Venetian dialect) climbable again. From the rooftop you can try to identify all of the bell towers you've seen around town.
