Fodor's Review:

Designed by Baldassare Longhena in grand baroque style, this impressive mansion was completed in 1710, nearly thirty years after both its commissioner and architect had died. After trading hands several times, the palace was turned over to the city on the condition that it be used to exhibit the works of young Venetian artists. Initially, the Galleria Internazionale d'Arte Moderna (Gallery of Modern Art) fulfilled this condition by exhibiting paintings and sculpture from the Biennale, an international art event that, with few interruptions, has taken place in Venice every two years since 1895. Years of acquisitions and donations have turned it into one of Italy's most varied collections of modern art, with works by such artists as Klimt, Kandinsky, Matisse, and Miró. Reopened in 2002 after several years of restoration, the building is well lit and the works are well presented. Ca' Pesaro's upper floors house the Museo d'Arte Orientale, (Oriental Art Museum), an assortment of art, garments, armor, and musical instruments from China and Japan. Poor lighting and labeling detract from otherwise interesting exhibits, but the view across neighborhood rooftops is lovely.
